"The Valley of the Ten Peaks," in which Moraine Lake is nestled was originally named "Desolation" by Allen & Wilcox, in contrast to the adjoining "Paradise Valley." One has to ponder at the variations of experience that inspired the two prominent mountaineers to attach such a dreary name to such an incredibly beautiful place.
