About The Artist

Louise Olinger was born and raised in a farming community in northern Alberta. She spent many memorable family vacations as a child in and around the Canadian Rockies with her adventurous parents. They instilled in Louise an appreciation of the wilderness and the beauty of nature at a very early age.

Upon moving to Canmore in the mid 90’s, Louise finally realized her life’s dream---combining her love of the outdoors and painting the very landscape she so passionately enjoyed. Both winter and summer she explored the peaks and valleys and backcountry where she gathered inspiration and motivation for the vibrant colors and powerful style that characterizes her watercolors.

Although several artists have inspired and influenced her painting, there is no one more so than Edmonton Artist Gregg Johnson. Gregg challenged and encouraged her through his workshops, providing the impetus for her to develop as an artist. His workshops over the past 15 years have been a source of creativity, growth and pleasure. The friendships that came about as a result of these workshops have endured, and although Gregg has retired, a core group of artists continue to assemble in Jasper for Spring and Fall Retreats to encourage and challenge each other.

After enjoying completely unrelated careers prior to painting I have been fortunate enough now to turn my new found love into yet another successful career. This one I have no desire to change.” Louise Olinger
