Located between Banff and Lake Louise this peak was originally named "Castle" because of its commanding shape and dominant position in the Bow Valley. It was renamed "Mount Eisenhower" in 1946 to honour visiting General Dwight Eisenhower. In 1979, it was officially changed back to "Castle", leaving the general's name on the tower at the east end of the main massif.
